There is a new type of refrigerator in the market. They called it “galvanized refrigerator”. You will know if it is galvanized if you cannot see any metal bars at the back of the appliance. Instead you will only see a clean metal sheet at the back of the refrigerator. This is the new model but Green Stickman™ does not recommend it. Galvanized refrigerator has a lower life span actually. No wonder why companies like Condura and Kelvinator still sell (and I believe that the are the only brands that sells until now in the Philippines) models with bars at the back. These brands are tested for its durability.

If you want to buy a good refrigerator, don’t just go for the look. The most important thing to know is the energy efficiency rating of the appliance. Usually the rates higher than 250(I will post efficiency rate image sample later) gives a lower amount of power consumption hence, lesser electric bill. If you want a smaller electric bill, go buy Condura. But if you have enough budget and want a more elegant look, buy a Kelvinator (I really love the piano black ref of Kelvinator and it cost PhP 5,000 more than the Condura’s counterpart). Kelvinator and Condura almost have the same parts and manufacturer actually. The difference is that Kelvinator has a more durable plastic materials inside plus the elegance! But be happy with the Condura counterpart because they almost have the same power efficiency.

Taking care of your refrigerator for the first time:

When your appliance order is delivered, sometimes the delivery boys does not orient the consumers on how to take care of the product. Here are good advises that should not be ignored:

  1. After delivery, DO NOT PLUG and DO NOT TURN the REFRIGERATOR ON! Let it stay for about 4-5 hours. This is to take care of the refrigerator’s “freon”.
  2. After 5 hours of appliance rest, plug the appliance on and turn the thermostat to its maximum (usually level 5) and let it run for about 8 hours without putting anything inside the refrigerator. This is to maximize the thermostat performance of your refrigerator.
  3. After 8 hours, then you can now use your refrigerator! But you have to adjust the thermostat to 2.2 to 2.5 (if there is no much inside it) and 3 to 3.5 if the items inside it is too many. Do not put 1 or 1.5 since it will cost you more in your electric bill because it will turns on and off most of the time.

The same procedure should be done if you transfer your refrigerator on another location, like for example when you bought and transfer to a new home.

Well that’s it! I hope this guidelines help you when buying a refrigerator! Do not forget, if you decided to buy a refrigerator, choose Condura or Kelvinator or any brands that are not “galvanized”. And also, consider buying a two-door rather than a single door refrigerator. Kudos! :)
